The piece
End-grain chopping block laid up in a checkerboard pattern of quartersawn American black walnut and hard rock maple. End-grain construction means the knife edge slips between vertical wood fibers instead of slicing across them — the surface self-heals between cuts, your edges stay sharp longer, and the board never develops permanent knife scars. Glued with FDA-approved Titebond III, hand-flattened on a 36" jointer, then sanded through six grits to 320 before three rounds of food-safe finish.
